COMPONENT OF DESKTOP WINDOW

Component of desktop window are those feature/element that made up the desktop window such as:

1.ICONS: Are small pictures that appear on the computer desktop window.

We have two types of icon

1.Folder Icon

2.Program Icon

a. FOLDER ICONS: Are icons that are being indicated with yellow colours. A folder icon can be created by a computer user.

b. PROGRAM ICONS: Are icons that we installed in our computer system. It is an application software icon, it can’t be created.

2.BACKGROUND: A design with graphics filled with different colours of designs.

3.TASK BAR: Is a horizontal bar located below the computer desktop window. It usually contains the logo/symbols of any active running program or logo/symbol of any inactive program.

4.START BUTTON: Is a starting point for computer user, it gives easy access to start accessing any command or program.

5.SYSTEM TRAY: Display your date/time, network symbol etc.

HOW TO ARRANGE DESKTOP ICONS

1.Right click on an empty space

2.Point to sort by or arrange icons by

3.Click on either – Name, Type, Date Modify and Size

HOW TO CHANGE DATE AND TIME

1.Point and right on system tray

2.Click on adjust date/time (A dialog box appear)

3.Click on change date/time (A dialog box appear showing calendar and clock)

4.After setting up your calendar /time

5.Click on Ok

Calculator is a device used for making arithmetic calculations.

HOW TO CHANGE MOUSE POINTER

The mouse pointer is a moving symbol found on your computer desktop window when moving your mouse.

2.Click on control panel

3.Click on hardware and sound

4.Click on mouse

5.Click on pointers at the top of the displayed dialog box

HOW TO SWITCH PRIMARY/SECONDARY BUTTON

Switching the primary and secondary button simply means transferring the function of the left button (primary) to the right button and the function of the right (secondary) to the left button.

1.Right click on an empty space

3.Click on screen saver (A dialog box appear)

4.Under screen saver area choose 3D TEXT

5.Click on setting

6.Click on custom text and delete the existing text there

7.Type your name

8.Click on Ok

9.Set up your time margin to display your screen saver

10.Click on apply

11.Click on Ok

HOW TO CREATE A FOLDER

A folder is a container or a storehouse used for organizing files for proper savings.

1.Right click on empty space

2.Point to new

3.Click on folder

4.Type you name

5.Press your enter button to save

HOW TO RENAME A FOLDER

1.Point and right click on the folder you want to rename

2.Click on rename

3.Type a new name for the folder

4.Press your enter button to save

HOW TO DELETE A FOLDER

Point and right click on the folder you want to delete

1.Click on delete

2.Click on yes to delete

HOW TO COPY A FOLDER

Copy simply means using the original to make a duplicate.

1.Point and right click on the folder

2.Click on copy

TO PASTE A COPIED FOLDER

1.Right click on an empty space

2.Click on paste

NOTE: That the word paste enables you to see the copied folder. Paste plays a very important roles in terms of copy and cut.

HOW TO CUT A FOLDER

Cut means moving a folder from one direction to another. Dragging a folder from one place to another represent cut.

1.Point and right click on the folder

2.Click on cut

TO PASTE A CUT FOLDER

1.Right click on an empty space

WORKING WITH RECYCLE BIN OR TRASH CAN

Recycle bin or trash can is a dustbin for every deleted files & folder. All deleted files are been stored in the recycle bin or trash can.

How To Open The Recycle Bin

1.Point and right click on recycle from the desktop window

2.Click on open

HOW TO RESTORE FILES FROM THE RECYCLE BIN

1.Point and right click on the file

2.Then click on restore

3.After that, the deleted file will be restore back to your desktop window.

HOW TO EMPTY RECYCLE BIN

When a file is deleted from your recycle bin, that file have been deleted permanently from the computer.

1.Right click on the recycle bin

2. on empty recycle bin

HOW TO FORMAT A FLASH

Formatting a flash is the process of erasing or preparing a flash for a fresh use. The flash is an input device.

1.Insert your flash in the system unit

2.Click on start button

3.Click on computer

4.Right click the name of the flash

5.Click on format

6.Click on yes
